This Took Way Longer Than Instagram Says it Should: My Messy, Honest Weight Loss Journey

This isn’t a ‘before and after’ post where I tell you I found the magic fix. It’s not about a fad diet, 30-day challenge, or one-size-fits-all plan. This is 5 years of small changes, setbacks, victories, and figuring out how to prioritize my health while living real life.

The Starting Point
Five years ago, i realized my jeans were victimizing me. I found myself exhausted, uncomfortable in my own skin, and frustrated. Not just because of the number on the scale, but because I didn’t feel like me. I wanted energy, confidence, and honestly—I wanted to fit into my clothes without feeling miserable.

But I also knew I couldn’t do another extreme diet, and I didn’t want to fall into the all-or-nothing cycle (been there, burned out).

What I Actually Did (And Didn’t Do)
Here’s the thing: I didn’t lose 70 pounds overnight. It wasn’t linear. There were months of progress, followed by months where life got chaotic, stress eating happened, and the scale didn’t move (or even crept up).

But over time, I made changes I could actually stick with:
✔ Started walking. First to the fridge, but eventually around the block.
✔ Focused on progress, not perfection.
✔ Worked on my relationship with food—less restriction, more balance.
✔ Added strength training when I could.
✔ Gave myself grace for setbacks, but kept coming back.

It Wasn’t Fast or Perfect
It took 5 years because I’m a human with a life, stress, holidays, random cravings, and a strong emotional bond with carbs. Some months I crushed it. Other months… well, let’s just say the scale and I weren’t on speaking terms.

But Here’s the Good News
I stuck with it (mostly). I showed up for myself in small ways that added up. It’s not about a number—it’s about feeling stronger, more confident, and more in control of my health. It’s about being able to keep up with life, enjoy the occasional treat without guilt, and knowing I did this on my terms.

Closing Thoughts
If you’re on your own health journey, here’s your reminder: it doesn’t have to be perfect, fast, or Instagram-worthy. Small steps add up. Celebrate the wins, learn from the setbacks, and do what works for YOU.

Before and After Pic Incoming…
Messy, real, and proof that sustainable change is possible. Spoiler alert: still me, just a little lighter, more confident, and still powered by caffeine and sarcasm.
