Confessions of a Crystal Hoarder (No, I Won’t Stop)

Listen. I didn’t mean to become the kind of person who casually drops phrases like “I need to cleanse my moonstone.” But here we are.
It all started with one crystal.
Not just any crystal—Medusa. A dramatic name for a dramatic queen.
I was on vacation, visiting a cave (as one does when you’re trying to be outdoorsy). After the tour, we wandered into the gift shop—and that’s where I met her: a clear quartz with delicate, wild natural fissures running through it like veins of ancient energy.
The label said her name was “Medusa,” because those fissures reminded someone of the twisting snakes in Medusa’s mythic hair—and honestly? That’s all it took. I fell in love. There was no walking away. That crystal came home with me, and suddenly… I was a crystal girl.
Then things escalated… quickly.
Next came rose quartz—because it’s pink, and I love things that feel soft and sweet (even if I am not). Then there’s the amethyst geode sphere. A birthday gift from my husband. I’m still trying to decide if he was being sweet, thoughtful, or subtly telling me to chill out a bit. (Spoiler alert: I didn’t chill.) That gorgeous purple orb now sits proudly on my shelf, adding a little regal sparkle—and maybe some calm energy I could use, but probably just enjoy for the vibes.
Eventually I added a moody black obsidian sphere (a.k.a. my dark side in crystal form) and a rainbow moonstone cube that sparkles like it holds ancient secrets and mild judgment. And while I still consider myself a beginner, I’m fully in the “yes, I’ll rearrange my crystal shelf instead of cleaning the kitchen” era of my life.
Let’s be honest…
Sometimes I buy a crystal because it’s “for grounding.”
Sometimes I buy it because it looks like it would vibe with my bedroom curtains.
Most times, I buy it because I see it and immediately think: Ooooh, pretty.
That’s it. That’s the whole decision-making process.
Do they work? Who knows. Do I love them? Deeply.
I’m not out here charging crystals under every full moon (though I’ve thought about it), and I don’t claim to have unlocked the secrets of the universe. But I do know that these little beauties bring me joy, calm me down, and make my house feel like a cozy, witchy Pinterest board—and that’s enough for me.
Collecting crystals has become this sweet, sparkly little form of self-care. No pressure, no rules. Just good vibes and good aesthetics.
If you’re crystal-curious…
Start with what catches your eye. Seriously. Don’t overthink it. Whether you’re in it for the energy, the pretty colors, or the chance to name a chunk of quartz something absurdly powerful like I did—you’re welcome here.
